A wonderful lacquer box by master artist Sergey Kozlov, generally considered to be the greatest living artist from Fedoskino.. The use of gold foil and mother of pearl is masterfully executed on this paper-mache casket. It measures 2'5 x 6'5 and is signed by Kozlov and dated 2001 on the bottom. From my personal collection. The play of color over the mother of pearl in the wings of the geese is utterly genius.
A wonderful example of Kozlova’s whimsical work. Her use of mother of pearl brings life to the dress of the sisters as well as the river in the background. as they frolic in the countryside.
Measures 4 x 3 x 1.

One fascinating aspect to this particular painting is that the characters on the sides of the box are painted with expressions. Oil based paint with gold foil.
This unique box made in the village of Fedoskino was the result of a cooperative effort between a father and his son . It just so happened the father is Sergei Kozlov (considered widely among his peers as the premier Fedoskino artist alive) and his son is Alexandr.
The box was painted in 2002 on papier mache’ using oil based paint, golf leaf and mother of pearl. The borders ands the sides of the box are all modeled in gold leaf. This particular piece is quite similar to another collaborative effort by father and son Kozlov which appears on page 20 of the Wood/Lelkin book New World Visions: Russian Lacquer Miniatures
the box measures 5x5x1;
This wonderful winter nature scene painted by Sergey Kozlov and his son Alexander in 2002 represents collaboration at its finest. The papier mache’ box is painted with oil based paints and highlighted with gold foil and mother of pearl. One should really have a high quality magnifying glass to catch all the intricate details giving life to this scene.
